Susan von der Lippe is no stranger to elite level competitive swimming. Swimming as Susan Rapp, she was a member of the 1980, 1984, and 1988 US Olympic teams, and a silver medalist in the 200-meter breaststroke at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Recently, von der Lippe achieved something few thought possible: at age 40, she qualified for the 2008 US Olympic Trials in the 100-meter breaststroke.

Melissa Stockwell was a competitive gymnast then she went to war in Baghdad and came home disabled. That didn't stop the athlete within....Instead she switched gears and moved into the pool becoming a swimmer.
Now, Stockwell is the first to land on the team heading to Beijing this summer to compete at the Paralympics.

The USA Swimming Foundation has launched the Make a Splash initiative in response to a study that found six out of 10 African-American children are unable to swim, nearly twice as many as their Caucasian counterparts. In addition, 56% of Hispanic and Latino children are unable to swim.
