Testosterone Nation!

Testosterone_2 Men have found a way to cheat in sports competitions.....testosterone!

According to a recent study, they can process the hormone and once they inject themselves with testosterone  — it won't show up on a urine test and they get the competitive edge.

Shocking!

Extreme Sports Junkie Fails Again

HotairballoonFrench skydiver, Michel Fournier has tried and failed 3 times to set a new free-fall record.  He is attempting to soar to the stratosphere in a helium balloon and use it to jump from 130,000 feet.

His first  2 attempts  - in 2002 and 2003 - ended when wind gusts shredded his balloon before it even became airborne.  This time his ride to the sky left without him.

3 strikes you're out!

How Many Chances Will The Mets Give Darryl Strawberry!

DarrylstrawberrygoesdeepAfter a decades-long battle with drug and alcohol addiction Darryl Strawberry is making a comeback.  At 46, Strawberry's latest venture, while revolving around baseball, is more personal than professional. The New York  Mets have hired Strawberry essentially to be a big brother. He will serve as a special instructor during spring training and as an ambassador once the season starts, traveling within the New York metropolitan area and to the club’s minor league affiliates.

He's also lending support to the Smithers Alcohol Treatment and Training Center which supported him in his time of need.

Kudos to you Darryl Strawberry!

Mike Tyson - Champ or Chump?

Mike_tyson_wall_2005_1280 Mike Tyson is staging a comeback....this time on the big screen!

This week he starts the journey down a new path - the onetime heavyweight champ has created an intense, vulnerable, seething look into his life in a new film aptly titled "Tyson".  The critics and audience love it and he is once again getting the crowds support.

His story is tragic - he has gone from poverty to wealth to convicted rapist to broke and eventually into rehab.  Let's hope he stays the course this time around and enjoys the praise, accolades and money.  His addiction to failure and drama are as strong a force as his determination to succeed.  Maybe the latter will win this round.

I can't help but cheer him on!

ASU Athletics Resusitate Sports Programs?

Asu In what could only be described as a surreal moment this morning I read two pieces of information that seemed like an odd coincidence.

The news that ASU is cutting 3 sports from their roster due to cutbacks was disappointing.  Wrestling, Tennis and Swimming will no longer be offered and by cutting these 3 sports they are saving 1.1 million dollars.

After reading this news and feeling a bit deflated (hate to read that schools are cutting out athletics), I opened my mail and began reading the newsletter from my children's old school (nursery-9th grade) which proudly lists the donations contributed to the "annual operating fund"....remember, nursery-9th graders.....8 families fell under the "1 million or more" heading, 20 under the "500,000-1 mill" and so on.....clearly this tiny private school has learned how to get it's alumni and current family members to participate in raising funds - perhaps our college administrators should go back to fund-raising school!

Lord of the Flies and La Jolla Collide

Lajolla Gang Wars have erupted onto the waves of La Jolla, California.

The Times reported that professional surfer Emery Kauanui Jr., was beaten to death by a group whose members call themselves "The Bird Rock Bandits".  Both Kaunaui Jr., and The Bandits frequented a popular break in Windansea Beach.  After a day on the water and a night of drinking at the local bar, Kanuai Jr., was left clinging to life (he died within a few days) and The Bandits charged with his murder. This "gang" of 5 surfing thugs young men from La Jolla, all in their 20's, are currently awaiting trial.  This new generation has begun to create a rip tide in the surfing community!

What ever happened to just "chillin' out"?!  Those lazy days of sun, surf & sand and being replaced with turf wars on the waves.  Retaliation for "stealin' a wave" is no longer an icy stare but a deadly beating!  I think it's time to give the younger surfing generation a major time out.
